What Lies Beneath…

Dear Friends,

Last weekend I had the chance to spend some time in the cellars beneath our buildings. Ken Stone, who faithfully tends to the care of our buildings, and Brian O’Neill our sexton, were each showing me where things were not working. Water in the cellar of the Parish Hous from all the rain, then a leak in the pipe that brings water into the building, and finally, sections of the heating ducts that bring hot air to the church which had fallen to the ground. Big Fat Unmanageable Theological Words — Brought to Heart

Saturday March 16, 2013, 10 to 3, a quiet retreat day offered by Episcopal priest, author and spiritual director, the Rev Lyn G. Brakeman, at Miramar Retreat Center in Duxbury, Massachusetts. Lyn is also a Priest Associate here at St. John’s. Retreatants will be invited to explore, through meditations, conversations, journaling, and personal prayer, some basic Christian vocabulary, words we often use without really knowing what they mean in lived experience. Little things like grace, sin, salvation, the holy are not cereal brands, but rooted in ancient and biblical contexts. What do they mean to you? Individual spiritual direction will be offered for anyone who desires it. The goal is to enrich and enliven Christian spirituality in a beautiful space with lots of places to rest in God and pray, and enjoy a good warm lunch.

You may register on line at Miramarretreat.org, email at miramarma@aol.com, call 781-585-2460. Check website for more information. Fee is $39 with a deposit of $15.

Around the Parish

Congratulations to Megan and Ben Popp on the birth of their daughter, Abigail, who was born on Saturday. She joins siblings Henry and Rosie. Mom and Abigail are home and well.

Last Sunday at the 10 am service, we commissioned a Discernment Committee for Charles Stang, a member of our parish who is considering a call to the priesthood. In the Episcopal Church, the first step for any person contemplating ordained ministry is to meet with a group from the local parish to explore a call. The committee then brings a recommendation to the Vestry in June. Members of Charlie’s committee are Elizabeth Jordan, Stephen Spinetto, Maureen Lavely, and Jonathan McCormick. Please keep them and Charlie in your prayers.
